I thought after a year of attending any school you automatically get instate tuition but apparently at SCO in state tuition is competitive and not even TN students all get instate tuition.

I was wondering if this is something specific to SCO or ALL optometry schools? (i.e. do all second year UHCO, SUNY, etc students get instate tuition?)

I think it depends on the school. SCO, being a private institution, has contract seats for a number of states. It's not advertised that there are a certain number of class seats per state. The schools you mentioned, SUNY and UHCO for example, are state/public universities. So instate status after one year may be a possibility with public institutions. I know that each school has their own guidelines by which state residency is determined/granted after a certain period of time (1 academic year versus 1 calendar year). From what I know, UABSO does not grant instate status after the first year (please correct me if I'm wrong). All in all, it's up to the school and in some cases, the state. Best to get in contact with the school to get a straight answer.

no, you don't always get in state after a year... some say if you start as out of state you stay that way. you just have to check each school individually.

SCO doesn't really have "in state" or "out of state" because they are private, and the tuition is around $19 grand for "regional" and about $26 for "non-regional." there are only so many regional seats and they don't all go to people from tennessee.

SUNY does do in state after a year for most though:

I was also wondering how you feel ICO PCO and SCO compare... I know these has been discussed in previous years but would appreciate more current views...

SUNY students get in-state tuition if they can prove that they have resided in NY for 1 year. Typically a lease + some other documentation suffices for in-state. Anyone can get it, so long as you choose to live in NY.
