I know a lot of the southern schools basically say out of state need not apply, but how about other states? California? New York? MA? Do they usually take a good number of out of state applicants and are they judged fairly or do they have to be much more competitive applicants in order to get in?

Unless you have 22 or 23 across the board I would not bother applying to CA schools b/c they are extremely diffcult to get into from out of state...(I really want UCLA and UCSF but my status were too low...) I heard only extremely negative things about USC so I wouldn't apply there either...😉

For New York- NYU will be your best bet.

For MA- TUFTS will be your best bet.

NYU and Tufts are private schools, so IS/OOS doesn't matter for them.

This list breaks down public or private d-schools

MA has no public schools
NY has Stonybrook which accepts like 5 out of staters, buffalo accepts like 40 OOS, Maryland takes about 60, UMDNJ takes about 40, Michigan 40, Pittsburgh 50... there's probably a lot more good ones, check it out on predents.com

Ah very interesting. I am from around Pittsburgh. They seem to like out of state students quite a lot. I know the reason, more or less. And it's wee bit sad.

I'm definitely applying to NYU and Tufts and all the schools in the Northeast. As for Cali schools, yeah, I'm not applying to any if I don't have 23 across. But if I do, I'm applying for shizzle. But my mere crap GPA might be enough for them to send rejection after rejection for emphasis.

UPitt is a private school, therefore they tend to care less about state residency. 🙂

Wha wha? Last time I heard... Pitt is still a public school... hmm. Or perhaps I've gone nuts. But I did hear that Pitt wants to go towards the private and Ivy status. It's old enough. And the tuition in the past few years have gotten atrociously high. Atrociously.

Ack - I stand corrected. UPitt is half public and half private as for now. Somebody else please correct me if I am wrong. 😳

^The undergrad is most definitely still public. Med school might be private. Actually I do think it is private.
