I heard its easier get in a state school if you're an in-stater. Is this true? Wont it be more beneficial ($$-wise) for the school to accept more out of staters?

No i.e UCs accept about 80 percent from California so stick with your state school

I would say that youre best bet is private then your state school and then out of state. Do youre research though as many states (i.e. Georgia) dont accept any students from out of state.

For the most part this is true, however I have found out that being an in-stater in Pennsylvania is actually a disadvantage. One would think that a state related school that takes 182 million dollars of taxpayer monies would have an obligation to the residents of that state that pay taxes. The numbers tell a different story. If you want a good chance of getting in a state school, establish residency in Texas. Their three schools are under legislative mandate to accept almost entirely state residents.

Or if you go to BYU apply to VCU ... I dont see the connection but someone out there in admissions land does

^^Yea, even though they get more money in tuition it is not always "benefecial" for them to have an out of stater come in, recieve an education, and leave. The in state schools obligation is to its state, so training in-state ppl who will practice in state in more beneficial for the State, which makes the state look more favorably on the school (funding, etc.). I think

yea, they wont even take applications from out of staters -- its on every page of their non-aadsas application 😀

besides, state schools get govt money to train dentists from their state and that will hopfully be more prone to practice in that state. i know that is what i am planning on doing anyway...
