Hey guys I just wanted to get your opinion on new medical schools. Specifically ones that would be entering their inagural class or their second year enrollment. I know some people are hesitant and would like to get the school established - does anyone have any advice on new schools? I was looking at specific schools such as:
-university of illinois at urbana champaign (2017 inagural class)
-indiana university Evansville (2017 inagural class)
-Kansas city university of medicine and biosciences (2017 inagural class)
-UNTHSC

These are pre-liminary updates if anyone has any further details, that would also be appreciated. Thanks!

Really curious about this question as well, as I've got a state school (Washington State University) opening up 2017 as well.

From what I gather, there's the risk that these schools may not receive eventual full accreditation if something goes wrong (they can't receive it until their first class graduates). That and the inaugural class will be guinea pigs as the school hires faculty, shapes its curriculum, discovers its culture, and in general gets on its feet. I personally think it could be exciting to be a part of a school during a formative period but I see where the apprehension comes from.

But at the same time, I have to think that if a school has spent so many resources on establishing itself and received preliminary accreditation from LCME, they must be on the right track?

isnt the inaugural class free?

I have not heard that. It would be a huge contributor (who wants to be in 100 k+ dept). But ive never heard of inaugural class free. Has anyone here been apart of an inaugural med class? Thoughts?

I would look into their home residency programs too, I imagine some of the more specialized fields may be missing. However you can always do aways

Umm, IU Evansville has been part of the IU branch system for years.

Part of being a pioneer lcass is having to deal with a Faculty that are working on something new. It takes a few years to figure out how to deliver a curriculum.

It helps to be a good self-starter.
