I just had a quick question about whether to include work experience as an EC. For the summers before my freshman, sophomore, and junior year, I had to get jobs to help pay for school. The first two summers I worked full time in a wharehouse, then full time as a garbage man. Last summer I picked up a second job as a prep chef at a restaraunt at 30 hours/week because my shadowing/research asssistant position was also only 25-30 hours a week. I was wondering if I should include this other work experience on AMCAS. If I did, I was just going to create one heading and list them all there. Is this a good idea? Or is it not worth it. The only reason I am thinking about it is because I have 9 ECs, and from what everyone has around here, that seems like a low number.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

First off, I don't think 9 is low. I think 9 meaningful ECs is good. A lot of people with more either a. put stuff that wasn't really that meaningful but thought it ought to be on there or b. are non-trad in some way. I think quality really is more important that quantity.

That said, I think you should list them on your app because it shows what you've been doing with your summers. And it might lead to interesting interview topics.

9 is about what i had. and they were meaningful.
yeah i put down work experience for my ECs.
