If you have extra room, it won't hurt you to do so. It shows that you did something constructive with your time (as opposed to sitting on a couch and playing video games) and if you had interactions with customers while working at the cafe, it's possible that helped you develop "people skills"

I would say employment is employment, so go for it. They are interested in what you've done outside of a medical setting, and I doubt that most applicants even have "medical employment" (volunteering, yes).

This is always a plus. In the description you can put something like, “worked in a cafe where I further developed customer service and interpersonal communication skills. I work approximately X hours per week while attending school fulltime (or while taking X credits)." This way it concretely shows how many hours you were engaged in responsible activities during the week.

Obviously, not a must have in the application, but it can’t hurt.

My first job was at In n Out at 15 1/2. I'll be putting that down. I actually worked there up into my college years.

BTW, I've actually said this before, but if you've never had In n Out I feel sorry for you. 😛

delicious.... now I'm hungry!

Am I the only one that does not like In and Out Fries?

I don't like them very much either. I'll eat em if I'm hungry and don't want another burger. I go for the shake n burger. 😀

Oh man In and Out is so amazing. I've only been there once since I'm from WI, but I'll never forget eating there 😀

I worked at a restaurant in nyc for a year after graduating from college (I applied 5 years after graduating). I definitely listed this as work experience and in particular mentioned:
- working in fast-paced environment and multi-tasking
- people skills and customer service for international clientele
- worked alongside coworkers from all over the world
- leadership -- became a senior waitress and trained new staff
