At the moment, I don't currently have a laptop. I have a high-powered desktop, an IPad, a new smartphone, and my chromebook just kicked the bucket.

My question to you folks is this: Do you guys think I need to buy a new laptop to bring to class on top of the ipad/desktop combo? I was planning on having the powerpoint slides on the pad and using the pen to take notes/read textbooks from it...flashcards on my phone, and lecture videos/etc on my desktop. Most discussions I've read everyone advocates having a laptop. Is it just for typed notes during lectures? I think I would probably learn more from writing on the powerpoint slides by hand on the ipad, and I doubt I'll attend most lectures after the first month anyway. Not sure if I need to plonk down the cash. input appreciated!

Most schools include a laptop with your tuition. If your school doesn't do it then i recommend to buy a Macbook Pro, it's expensive but it lasts for many yeaaars.

I believe my school only gives an Ipad. I also dislike macOS so there's no way I'm getting a macbook

I need my laptop for portable note taking. I don't plan on sitting at home all day in front of my home pc, too easy to get distracted. Plan is to annotate electronic notes on my Surface Pro 3 while using my windows laptop. My school forced us to get a Macbook Pro, not sure if I'll be using that for general library use or the windows laptop :/.

Some schools require a laptop and you have to go through a laptop verification process. I would check with your school to see if that's the case.

If that's not the case, then don't waste money on one if you don't think it will be useful.

I wouldn't be able to live without my laptop for school though.
