I'm a nontraditional application. Due to some personal circumstances, I have an incomplete on my transcript that lapsed into a NP during my undergraduate. The class is not a requirement, and I did not retake it. I did not explain in great detail though I alluded to it in my personal statement. It was a long time ago.

I was looking on the UoP website today, and it said "Applicants should achieve a B or better in each course; no D, W, F or I grades." Does this disqualify me from UoP? Should I call them and ask? How do dental adcoms view incompletes? Should I retake the class?

The UoP FAQ page states it as:

Q: What level of performance is the Admissions Committee looking for in my academic history?
A: Many of our successful applicants completed three or more terms of full-time study at a college within the last three years. Full-time study is defined as four or more courses per term. In each term, three of the four courses should be predental science courses approved for biology majors. Applicants should achieve a B or better in each course; no D, W, F or I grades. Our incoming class grade point averages (GPA) are 3.6 overall and 3.5 science.

I'm hard press to believe they have never accepted someone with a D, W, F, or I grade on their transcript. In all honesty, the students who have had a rough patch and bounced back are the ones who understand how to overcome adversity the best. No one is infallible. I'm pretty sure their response could be summarized as "we want students who have demonstrated they can handle full academic loads and have performed well". As long as you have a GPA within their range and have many semesters/quarters where you were a full time student and did well then I think you're fine. The safest bet is to give them a call and ask them directly but I'm thinking you're fine.

I believe that in the statement "Applicants should achieve a B or better in each course; no D, W, F or I grades." the bolded part is a direct reference to the previous sentence about the "predental science courses approved for biology majors", likely specifically referring to the required science courses for admission. I think these are the courses you need to have no "D, W, F, or I grades in". In other words, I suspect this is their slightly convoluted way of saying you need to pass their prerequisite course list with a C or higher which is standard for most schools (not that you can never have a D, W, F, or I anywhere on your transcript). Best to be safe and give them a call on Monday to double check.
