Do people actually show interest in schools before applying, and does that lead to getting interviews and eventually getting in?

If so, do they mark you down somewhere saying you called to find out something/wanted to talk to someone about application process or w/e or want to get a tour? Do they have representatives in different parts of the country where you could actually go talk in person???

As usual, it depends. If the person you show interest to is on the admissions committee or has contacts there and vouches for you, that can give you a leg up. It's not always effective, but it usually doesn't hurt either.

Yes, it absolutely helps if you show strong interest in a particular school. A lot of schools might pass over you if they think you are not serious about their school (for ex, someone who has been on the East coast all his/her life applying to California schools). If you show that their school is a top choice for you, they'll give you a closer look.

when is a good time to send a letter of intent/interest though (assuming you only send to one school) - after the interview or if you're on the WL? what about before or during your secondary? perhaps that might increase your chances of gettig an interview?

Thanks@!
