Since a lot of universities (including mine) are transitioning to fully online courses, I was wondering if medical schools will be more flexible about online classes. I am taking two pre-reqs this semester (biology 2nd semester and respective lab) but I also know that med schools do not like online courses. Will I be okay with these two pre-reqs even though half of the course was online, or will I have to retake them in some capacity (which would delay my graduation)?

On the other end of the spectrum, do you think it is at all possible that med schools will become accepting of online courses due to this situation to the point where I could get away with taking physics online this semester?

My institution has transitioned to online classes as well. I feel as though medical schools will be understanding due to the fact coronavirus is a threat, however, I do not think they will be "understanding" to online pre-reqs from here on out due to the coronavirus situation. Just my opinion though!

The community college that I teach at will be converting all on-ground courses to online courses for the next three weeks in an effort to slow the pandemic.

Because of COVID-19 and the very dynamic changes this will bring throughout society for the this year (and likely for the next 2-3 years if pandemics of the 20th century would indicate), this question will come up again and again. However, there is no definitive answer as no one knows which schools will act in which ways. However, as medical schools are on the front lines of this both in treating patients as well as setting appropriate behavior for community public health, it would seems reasonable that most medical schools will grant waivers for online prereqs over the next year or two at least. How this might be in 3-5 years is anybody's guess. But it would seem a reasonable basis for requesting a waiver at that time at this will be a widespread issue.

Do you think that I could take physics online this summer then due to the potential waivers?

No. We expect you to go to school and sit in the empty lecture hall, even if no teaching is going on. Especially if no teaching is going on.

Sorry I did not ask this correctly. They offer physics online every summer. Taking it online over the summer would be very helpful for my overall schedule. I wanted to take it but decided not to since they prefer it in person. Now with the corona virus, I was wondering if I could get away with it, because other students are being forced to take classes online. I was originally planning on taking it in like 2 years in person.

Probably. I heard a rumor that the coronavirus issue would be going on until August.

I will say that online classes do require discipline, planning, dedication of time, and self-motivation. I think these are great character traits to develop and I wish more students would develop these traits. Sometimes, online classes can be more demanding than the on-ground versions.

Wondering if it will even be indicated on our transcripts that these courses were taken online...Our course codes and info don't indicate that they are online courses.

I think it depends on your institution. At the one I teach at, online, on-ground, and hybrid courses appear the same as far as the transcript at the National Student Clearing House.

As a side note, we won't be able to run labs for our on-ground classes as our supply of protective nitrile gloves will be sent to help with the coronavirus outbreak. The same goes for our hydrogen peroxide, alcohol, and a few other items.
