Are malpractice insurance normally covered for I/C? If not, how much am I looking at?

No, it's often not covered. The price varies based on zip code and company used.

Probably $3-5000 first year. Depending on part time vs full time. Then increases each year for I think 5 years.

depends. If you use a locums or recruiting company then they usually provide it for you.

Ok thanks guys . I wanted to do I/C but they don't provide insurance and I can't afford it now. A vendor that I was going to use says they don't offer insurance but pays 166/hr for weekends and I can make installments which comes out to 2-3 dollars/hr. No travel coverage. The site is two hours away from home. Still deciding if that is worth it. Thoughts ? Thanks

No first year out. Should I be seeking more as a non-resident? This is my first non-employee gig so I m still new to this.

Sounds like raw deals. When doing weekend coverage, and you have a reliable job, it ought to cover all things such as malpractice and so on, but at a decent rate. If you're striking out to set-up your own PP and need your own malpractice, then getting in touch with a malpractice company would be worth while.

I paid $1k first year, then $2k year 2 for 20hr wk outpatient coverage, though this is site specific. I wouldn't commit to paying for coverage without seriously planning on staying at the place for a while (since you've got to keep paying or lay out even more for the tail if you quit).
