Does anyone use index cards to study or is there way too much information to even have the time to make out index cards?? When I was in Paramedic training I LOVED index cards. I'm afraid med school will be 100x more in depth and I won't be able to use this method of studying. I know there are different web sites where you can make and exchange flash cards, but does anyone even have the time to do that?

I used to rewrite my handouts onto index cards. Do you think this will help in med school???

Index cards were very useful for me. I stayed away from pre-made flash cards because I always felt the act of making the card helped me remember the material the best.

Yes!! I agree!!!

Depends on the course. I've used them exclusively for some, not at all for others. The more I would need to write on a flashcard to get the concept across, the less likely I am to use them

The only definite advice is that if they sell flashcards for the course (i.e. Anatomy) don't make your own.

It really depends on the course and the material. It's great for things like pharmacology or microbiology where there are set categories of information to remember for each item. It's much less useful for things like physiology, where there are a lot of interrelated, diffuse concepts, or biochemistry where you've got pathways that could fill up a space the size of a poster.

As an M-1 I'm not sure I'll have too much time for full board review books, but do you think its a good idea to get flashcards that are just pertinent to the boards? I figure this way I could do some quick reviewing along the way.

Also if anyone can recommend any pre-made flashcards I would really appreciate it..

I wouldn't do index cards, but flashcards on the computer work great. Carrying around 500 of them per test would get tedious.

The key is to use them to supplement other reading by helping you to remember the specific details of a broader idea.

I make flashcards for one class per semester that I definitely want to do well in. So far, it's worked pretty well.

i agree. i found i did light-years better in classes i made flashcards for. i think it's because no matter where i was i could study easily and inconspicuously.

Actually i just started using this website at www.gunnertraining.com. they have the step 1 content divided into organ and basic science flashcards with some good pictures. i havent gone through all of it yet, but looks useful so far. however, apparetnly some people have had some technical problems with the website, so i dont know. but so far so good for me.
