Those who really care and feel for the ppl who have been devastated by this tragedy kindly donate some money to the organizations which are working for this cause. Let this be a christmas or new yr gift from ur side to a family which really needs food, shelter or clothes. Donating even a small amount wud count and it will only come back to u in leaps & bounds.

this is a terrible tragedy , more than 25 thousand people across the south asian region have lost their lives
we offer our condolence and our hearts go out to people who have lost their loved ones

lets pray for all the poeple who lost their lives and those who lost everything they had .
my parents were recently in chennai for a visit and were walking the beaches whr the devastation struck, about 12 hrs b4 the tsunami.
now they r back to their city safe and sound. i really thank god for their safe return

I feel great sadness about this matter. The area is already facing its economic struggles without natural disasters, now this only worsen the situation. It's not just the 23,000 people who died tragically. If you consider that the average family may be 3 people. What this means is the there are 69,000 survivors of the loved ones that past away. In sum, 23,000 people died and 69,000 people grieving. What a tragedy.

The 23,000 is also approximately 8 times the people who died in the WTC terrorist attack.

It makes me feel sad that all of us spend so much energy, time on the trivialities of life. Terrorist attack, attacking Iraq, and whatever. Even our government, the investment in military is an absolute shame without justification.

When our blessings run out, our situation may not be better. This is not being morbid, and I'm not hoping for ill on America. But it just feels that we are so focused on everything else, and not recognize the fragility of life. Not recognize all the sadness that exist in other parts of the world.

Furthermore, so what if this natural disaster never happened, there are kids around the world dying everyday, not due to natural causes, but (if I may speak boldly here) due to the greed of the industrial nations. And I'm part of the problem too. Being a dentist, is for my own greed, it will not lessen the suffering that exists in the world. I know a doctor in this case would be much more useful than a dentist.

These are my sad thoughts - just want to share them.

Shocking Indeed . It strengths our belief in Geeta, Destiny, Eternal Power where man has no control

I agree with prettypink, and will send the best wishes as I can. They will be in my prayers and transferences.

Hi, I'm from Thailand, and I lived in Phuket two year ago. The southern shore of Thailand was hit too. I'm sorry for the victims and their families. I heard that India sent a rescue team to Thailand. I feel very grateful to indian people for the help. You are in trouble, but you still help others.

Here is some info about Tsunami:

How do earthquakes generate tsunamis?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Tsunamis can be generated when the sea floor abruptly deforms and vertically displaces the overlying water. Tectonic earthquakes are a particular kind of earthquake that are associated with the earth's crustal deformation; when these earthquakes occur beneath the sea, the water above the deformed area is displaced from its equilibrium position. Waves are formed as the displaced water mass, which acts under the influence of gravity, attempts to regain its equilibrium. When large areas of the sea floor elevate or subside, a tsunami can be created.
Large vertical movements of the earth's crust can occur at plate boundaries. Plates interact along these boundaries called faults. Around the margins of the Pacific Ocean, for example, denser oceanic plates slip under continental plates in a process known as subduction. Subduction earthquakes are particularly effective in generating tsunamis.

This simulation (2 MB) of the 1993 Hokkaido earthquake-generated tsunami, developed by Takeyuki Takahashi of the Disaster Control Research Center, Tohoku University, Japan, shows the initial water-surface profile over the source area and the subsequent wave propagation away from the source. Areas in blue represent a water surface that is lower than the mean water level, while areas in red represent an elevated water surface. The initial water-surface profile, as shown in this image, reflects a large, long uplifted area of the sea floor lying to the west (left) of Okushiri Island, with a much smaller subsided area immediately adjacent to the southwest corner of Okushiri.

60,000 and counting... tha aftermath is even creapier, epidemics can arise from soiled water and lack of hygienic measures.

let we pray and take this sad situation as an opportunity to reflex and look into ourselves and thank the almighty for the things we have and usually take for granted.

hey guys,
I think God works in mysterious ways and we cant do anything about it.The only thing we could do right now is say a silent prayer for all whose life have been affected by it.

hi all.......

Hope u had a wonderful Christmas. I did too...until..

..disaster struck in my country and 11 other countries by the killer Tsunami. My folks are in India and by the grace of God, none of them are affected as they are all way inside from the coastal areas. But for ppl who have lost their children, husbands, wives, mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, friends, relatives...will anyone be able to console them? A mother lost all her 5 children, a baby lost all her family..she became an orphan in seconds.., a father watched helplessly as his son slip away from his arms and sucked away into the sea.., a boy looking for his parents among hundreds of dead bodies piled up...

The horror stories have just begun...and the death tolls are still rising...

The number of dead..as of now..

Indonesia: 45,268
Sri Lanka: 22,493
India: 6,974
Thailand: 1,829
Somalia: 100
Burma: 90
Malaysia: 65
Maldives: 55
Tanzania: 10
Seychelles: 3
Bangladesh: 2
Kenya: 1

Please pray for all the people, the innocent children, the elderly, the tourists whose vacation turned out to be a nightmare, the poor animals...

what a start for the New year.. 🙁

Asia..my heart weeps for u..

Hello guys,

Disasters happen now & then but this one is totally unexpected and a major one 🙁

We should be lucky and be thankful to god that we are not affected by it..

Now the only thing we can do to help the souls who are suffering is by donating as much as we can...let's do that 👍

Pallavi

Nice work. All of us should pledge max support for the victims. I have decided not to party for New Years and am going to send in the cheque for this.

God bless India and all the countries affected!

Hello everybody

While we can not do much to stop natural disasters, we can at least donate towards the relief efforts going on.

Please donate to the Sewa International who is already
working with partner NGOs in India, Thiland, Srilanka and Indonesia. It is a great organization with minimal overheads. So almost 100% of your help goes to those who are suffering.

Please visit http://www.sewausa.org/

Kindly make your donation payable to "Sewa International",
write "Tsunami" in the memo and mail it to,
