Indiana College of Optometry

I'm checking out optometry schools, and Indiana is a school I haven't heard much about. For those of you who will/are attending, can you tell me why you chose Indiana and the attributes of the school as well as the cons?

I went there because it was the closest school to home that wasn't in downtown Chicago. The campus is beautiful, the school is great and you can get lunch everyday from the Subway across the street where Jared himself used to eat.

I love IU! They are building a brand new clinic that should be awesome (it is supposed to be done before my class gets to clinic, so its should definitely be done for you). The lecture halls may not be quite as impressive as some other schools, but really is that the most important thing? The town is wonderful, lots of opportunities without being overwhelmingly big. Nice for people from smaller towns, but still plenty to do for those big city type. If you have any specific questions, you can send me a message.

Highly recommend IU. They are almost always considered one of the top 2 OD schools. Berkely being the other. They also have great research going on at the school. I've heard many extern ODs who have students from several schools say that IU graduates very good clinicians.

really, IU is best known for a hilarious video shown to us by some representative of vistakon (who bribed us to watch it with yummy sandwiches) about surviving our first year.

Oh yes! How could I have forgotten about that video?!? Due to some scheduling conflicts we ended up watching it a few weeks before our first semester was over. Some of my classmates and I were in tears laughing so hard. I remember one girl who was very... shall we say... motivated and energetic? (I wonder if she is an SDN member? 😳) We were bribed with Pizza Schmizza and Vistakon portfolios. Ah... good times.

Coopervision had the best pen hands down. It screwed in half and became a USB zip drive!

Considered one of the best by who? IU graduates?

I have never once seen or heard of any sort of formal ranking of any of the schools or colleges of optometry.

Student admin told us, I have no idea. Its a mystery! I've heard Berkley students claim it as well.
