So Indiana received my AADSAS application about three weeks ago in the mail and I called them at the time to see what I needed to send (I was waiting to send my rec letters directly to the school) and they told me to wait until I heard from them in a letter. Today, the 27th, I receive a letter dated the 19th that is postmarked the 25th saying that I need to send my letters in. No big deal, right? Then I read the line in the second to last paragraph-

"In order to be considered for fall interviews, the above information must be received in our office by Friday, August 26th." WTF???

Does this mean that I can't interview in the fall at all (and ergo, my chances are not so great at getting in)? Why in the world wouldn't they give me some notice so that I could have actually sent them the letters? Anyone else faced this or a similar problem and have any advice?

I'm a very strong applicant and an in-state resident, but I think we all know that if you don't interview before december 1st that your'e gonna have some serious problems. This school is my first choice and I'd pretty much banked on going there!

Thanks all-

JLJ

Since you already have the letters, why are you sitting on SDN complaining? Go over to Fed Ex right now, send the letters so they reach the office by Monday morning. Call the school on Monday morning, explain the situation, and tell them they should already have the letters at their doorstep.

Relax, this isn't anything to blow your stack about. I applied & interviewed *very* late in the cycle. My acceptance letter, also informing me I had to submit a $500 tuition deposit by March 13, came on March 10. I called Dr. Kasberg to explain the situation, and he gave me an extension on the spot. Call him up to let him know what's going on, and he won't hesitate to bend over backwards for you as long as you aren't a jerk about it. Good luck!

Thanks aphistis, that's really good to know going into this. I guess I'm just really accustomed to big schools having silly rules that are adhered to blindly. I totally thought I was screwed and would have to wait out a year, but now I'm a bit more optimistic. I'll call on monday and try to salvage the situation. Thanks all.

Iwuvteeth-

You seem to have a good idea about this whole process- why is Indiana including this "deadline" in their letters if it doesn't mean anything? Are they just trying to get people to complete their application files quickly?

Thanks

I'm guessing you didn't see my response to the OP.

DO NOT PANIC!

When i got my interview invite from them, i only had 2 days to let them know. So instead of panicing and posting on SDN, i called the school. They explained that the letter from the day it was printed, for some reason, took about a week to be send out and I was asked to send the reply within few days. Problem solved.

Yes, I agree. Granted this whole process is stressful, but dental school will also be stressful. Just breathe, get what you need to get done, then post and complain on SDN!

Good luck!
