I need a list, I understand the more you pay, the better your education, but I'm looking to find the common ground and compromise on a decently priced school with a quality education. I still have a long way until dental school, but I want to find one to commit to in the upcoming years. I live in texas and I heard both the dental schools here are pretty, for lack of a better word, cheap. Can anyone help? Preferably someone with a dds/dmd or a current dental school student. Thank you.

I dont see a correlation at all in the price of the dental education to the quality of the dental education.

The only correlation I see is the higher a school's tuition, the more "underqualified" students it accepts.

The old adage of "you get what you pay for" doesn't always ring true as far as dental schools are concerned. The Texas dental schools provide their students with an excellent education. As a resident, you will have access to this at dirt cheap prices (due to the taxes you pay). It would be worth your while to consider attending a school in Texas, if you are offered a seat. 🙂

" I understand the more you pay, the better your education"

You obviously need to do more research. Try google and use the search tool here.

i would kill for a spot at ANY texas school! price has nothing to do with the quality of the education. USC is wayyy more expensive than UCLA and UCSF, but i dont think anybody would argue that it is a better school.

there is no correlation between price of school and level of education.

There is however, a HUGE correlation between in-state vs out-of-state tution, and private vs public schools' tuitions.

If you want to get into dental schools, there are a few "generalized" guidelines:

1) strong college GPA, coupled with good DAT (3.5 and 19AA is ideal)
2) do some shadowing hours, and volunteer at your community
3) APPLY TO MORE THAN JUST A FEW SCHOOLS, avrg applicant applies to about 9-10 schools.... I did 18, you get the point.
4) THE ONLY TIME tuition becomes a factor into your decision is when MULTIPLE schools accept you, then you can look at cost and see which ones cheaper

ok, I'll be open to criticism and arrogant *******s, but this still doesn't answer my question.

how about, a list. Kinda like I said before. Damn, you guys are dental students and you can't even answer the prompt?

Step 1: Buy ADEA 2010 Official Book
Step 2: Read
Step 3: ?????
Step 4: PROFIT.

No offense, but most of the above posters have given sound advice, and yet you are expecting to spoon food you everything. You're obviously "new" at this dental school thing. Go buy the book (it will be your "abcs"/"123s") or learn to use the search function.

we all know public is cheaper than private.

so how about this, out of the private schools, which ones are not as expensive (tuition only and tuition + living)?

...go away. Damn, you are a PRE-dental student who thinks he's smarter than everyone else, yet you can't figure a stupid list out. Hmmm...

Here you go..

Arrogance (Merriam-Webster) - an attitude of superiority manifested in an overbearing manner or in presumptuous claims or assumptions

FMXRDA, there hasn't been an answer that showed an attitude of superiority. Now, on the other hand, you sir/ma'am, were rather boorish. They were telling you there is NO COORELATION between how good a school is and the cost of attending that school. That said - do a google search. In less than 1 minute I found the answer you want. I am not going do all the footwork for you as I would for people who don't come across as you did. Google this - dental school tuition ADA. You will find a link where you can go to where you will find you "list" that you want. Good hunting!

wow... are you serious?
"...like I said before..." With that attitude, I am sure hundreds of SDN'ers are drooling over this thread to post their comments on how to help you out.

This is a forum about helping and giving advice to each other, it is NOT about you coming here and "commanding" lists of information that you happen to be too lazy to research on your own.

The amounts you listed are inaccurate according to predents. These have not been updated for awhile. As far as I know, Buffalo is now 195,000 for out of state for 4 years. It was originally $40,000 for one year out of state, but now it went up 20% this year to $48,000. Multiply that by 4 you get $192,000. Now factor in at least a 3-4% increase per year after the first and you will be right around $200,000 in tuition ALONE. With fees, etc. Buffalo out of state is on the verge of over $300,000 for 4 years out of state. I am a D1 there and this year will cost $80,000 for everything (including living). However, after the 1st year I should get in state which is now $26,000/yr (increasing 9% per year).

Anyway, if you want accurate information regarding tuition cost, access the school's website to find it. Make sure you understand that tuition can change without notice as well. I had the chance to go to 7 schools, of which BUFFALO would have been the cheapest had they not changed residency requirements AND increase tuition 20% for out of state WITHOUT NOTICE. So my choice of Buffalo that should have cost around $150,000 total has now turned into a $250,000 endeavor. Not a good choice anymore.

Indeed, I'm certain that the Predents.com tuition numbers are very out dated.

The best solution is to visit each school's website and take a look at their projected tuition costs. 🙂

I would suggest just visiting the websites of all the schools you are interested in and enter the prices into an Excel Spread Sheet. It will make comparing easy!

I made the mistake of first investigating tuition costs on PreDents, only to be surprised in more thorough investigation of the true/updated costs.
