To all ID docs out there...

A thread to share your fellowship thoughts and experience for this year - People who are applying could share their thoughts and people who applied last year can provide their additional input on the programs. I guess it is time to gather all the documents -- Timeline is just two more months - December 1.

Good luck to all! Keep posting!

Hello there --- Anybody have a list of unmatched programs from last match - I was told that big universities like Stanford and UNC went unmatched ----- Any idea about that? -- Is ID is being less 'preferred' these days compared to previous years??? 🙄

Got an interview offer today.

Interview offers from University of Iowa, Creighton, and University of Utah so far.

I guess its nice to actually hear your status but the email I got was addressed to 'To whom it may concern' and there was an attachment called 'rejection letter.doc.' Rather impersonal, but oh well.

Thanks for reviving this string, IDluv. Hopefully we can get some discussion going now that the 2012 applications are underway. I would imagine that unless you really don't want to stay in Atlanta or just want a change from residency, you'll be ranking Emory's program quite high given it's quality, from what I know.
In response as well to Luabe, above, I'm quite sure it's still general GME hospital policy in line with ACGME that monitors fellows' work hours/moonlighting, so no difference between residents and fellows, and it may be stricter now than in years past.
If you are able, I wonder if you or anyone else might be "in the know" about the quality of ID training in the following programs:

U Miami
Dartmouth
U Iowa
Mount Sinai, NYC (particularly if you are able to contrast MS with other NYC programs).

Thanks for your help, and best of luck with the match.

Dec 1 is nearing, how many programs are people applying to ?

I applied to many ! enough to buy a nice cruise for the ERAs folks. The problem is that I am medped so there are only 5 programs that have combined fellowship so I applied to those then the rest adult and some peds thrown in there...

I guess its nice to actually hear your status but the email I got was addressed to 'To whom it may concern' and there was an attachment called 'rejection letter.doc.' Rather impersonal, but oh well.

I know that was totally impersonal- I guess they get so many applicants but still... its not cardiology or GI !

Guys, Thank you all for your wonderful, and useful posts so far.

1) I have a basic question, is there any website where I can get the rankings of all ID programs? or anything like that?

2) Also, I need to know the the rankings or at least a brief idea as to where the following programs stand, even with respect to each other. I am basically looking for clinical training, with clinical research involved, frankly not interested in basic / bench research.
I would greatly appreciate opinions, feedback, advice, recommendations regarding this. Thank you all!

1. St. Joseph Mercy, Ann Arbor Michigan
2. UCDavis California
3. University of Vermont College of Med/ Fletcher Allen Health Care
4. State University of New York at Buffalo.
5. Carilion Clinic, Ronaoke, Virginia
6. University of Pittsburgh Medical Centre
7. St. John, East Lansing, MI
8. Oschner Clinic, Louisiana
9. Baylor, Dallas
10. University of Texas Houston
11. University of Utah
12. Jackson Memorial Hospital/University of Miami Miller School of Medicine
13. Medical college of Wisconsin , Milwaukee
14. The Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University in Greenville North Carolina.
15. Wake Forest , Winston Salem, North Carolina
16. Palmetto Health/University of South Carolina School of Medicine
17. Drexel Philadelphia
18. Case western Reserve , Ohio
19. University of Kentucky, Lexington
20. Indiana University School of Medicine
21. Medical College of Georgia, Augusta Georgia ,
22. University of Rochester Medical Center ,Rochester , NY
23. Memorial Sloan Kettering
24. Henry Ford, MI
25. Wayne state University, Michigan
26. Michigan State University
27. St Louis University School of Medicine Program St Louis, MO.
28. Texas A & M scott and white, temple, Texas

Hi Idlight,
I'm assuming that when you say you're looking for "clinical training with clinical research involved" that you're career goal is to primarily be a clinician as opposed to an academician. All the programs listed will meet the basics on "ACGME-required" clinical training, but some, such as Pitt, Case, Rochester etc...may have a bigger mandate for research than for clinical training. You can guage this often by how the program is structured (i.e: 1 year clinical followed by 2 years research in big academic programs, vs. even balance of clinical and some research offered in the second year only in the more clinically oriented programs).
It's also a good bet that some of the big "physician group practice" hospitals like Henry Ford, Ochsner, are very clinically oriented. In this regard, I notice you didn't list the Cleveland Clinic, which I can tell you is a very clinically-oriented program, emphasizes patient care and clinically oriented research.
Hope this is somewhat helpful.

New Orleans - Tulane and LSU worked together to make my interviews go together. It is a little more complicated because I am interested in med-peds ID too.
Try cheaptickets.com they seem to have reasonable flights and southwest has a hub there.

Looks like DocID got an invite to Cornell/Sloan Kettering, but otherwise haven't seen any posts about interviews from NY places. I am waiting on them as well. Was hoping to have heard from some of them by now since I am trying to plan out my interview schedule.

I have an interview with Mount Sinai in NY March 23, but I don't see that anyone on this string applied there. Like everyone else, I am waiting on the other NY programs (NYU, Beth Israel in my case). I can't imagine a decision should go any later than the end of this week, as NYU I know starts interviewing at the end of February.
