Hello, I am planning on going into ID and am a 4th year matching into a residency program this year. I have 3-4 schools that I like that are semi-close to my home which is a must for me. That being said, since I am so keyed on finding the right residency program I have not been able to feel out the programs ID fellowship program aside from asking "how is your ID program, etc". So to those who are in the know, how are these programs in terms of:
1. training great ID clinicians-put teaching and clinician skills ahead of not seeing you unless you have a problematic patient....
2. pt population for being subjected to many different diseases
3. National clout within the ID community
4. Research aims (HIV, Herpes, medical devices in ID, diabetic prone infections, pneumonia, i.e. what is the program either known for in research or have strong research ties/dollars to)
5. any other tidbits that you may think of that may entice a future ID doc

Programs in no particular order:

UNC
Mayo (MN)
Wisconsin
Pitt

thx all in advance and eager to see your opinions!

ID program at Mayo is pretty good, they see a lot more other infectious diseases (besides HIV) than other programs. Sorry, do not about the other 3 programs.
And is there any ranking for ID? I could not find on USNews.
