I clearly understand the distinction between cell-mediated and humoral responses in the immune system. However, on aamc6, there was a reference to inflammatory response, which gave the impression as if it referred to humoral response. Is inflammatory and humoral synonymous? Thanks.

I'm pretty sure inflammatory response and humoral response are not the same thing, but both are signal-mediated immune responses (as opposed to cell-mediated). For the humoral response the signal released equals antibodies, whereas for inflammation there are inflammatory cytokines. I can't say much more since I don't know how exactly the AAMC question related the two concepts...

I don't think they are synonymous either. The inflammatory response is definitely required for humoral immunity - but they occur on a different time scale.

I'd also say inflamation is required for cell-mediated immunity as well.
