I just graduated from UCLA and am still in the area. My lower division GPA was a 3.2 (from a community college) and my upper division was an (eek!) 2.35. I DEFINITELY need to take some classes before applying to a post-bac/SMP. How does open enrollment work, and where can I take classes?

I know UCLA has a pretty good open enrollment program... You just need to google it and find out the exact procedures for registering. I know you essentially get last pick of classes after all the official undergrads and what not so you may need to take unpopular classes.

Also consider some of the CSU's around there... A lot of them will let you enroll as a post-bac student and just take individual classes. I know CSU Los Angeles is really impacted, but consider Northridge... Good luck!

Look up UCLA Extension Concurrent Enrollment if you want to take undergraduate classes at UCLA. You can do an concurrent enroll after the first 2 weeks of classes have started at UCLA and there is room in the classes or you can just take the night classes. Like Dr.JD said... you don't get the best selection to the popular classes like LS1-4 etc but if you are looking for upper divisions, you should have a good selection. I think it costs around 500-600 dollars for a 4-5 unit class.

Good Luck~

csu la has a program
"
Post-Baccalaureate Certificate Program for Pre-Health Professionals
This post-baccalaureate certificate program provides an opportunity for pre-health career students to strengthen their academic background prior to application for admission to a health professional school. The program is designed to make post-baccalaureate students more competitive for admission through a combination of coursework, standardized test preparation, and health science activities. A student may not apply to the CSULA Master of Science Degree Program in Biology prior to the completion of the certificate program. Enrollment is limited to 10 students per academic year and restricted to Fall Quarter admission only.

this program is pretty good i heard. but note: only 10 students a year. i got no idea the criteria.
they have a mcat prep class as a credit class at csu la actually, i think that's pretty cool. the professors there teach more, aren't such rock stars like ucla, smaller classes. i just feel csu ends up being better undergrad institutions than ucla sometimes.
(i'm a bruin and true blue too, but our professors are definitely research oriented)

Hi murfettie,

Do you know anyone who complete the CSULA program and successfully got into a med school? Thanks
