Informal post bacc question

This should help:

Since you've already taken all requirements, you're past the informal postbac stage, but you could definitely retake the classes, in which case both old and new grade will be factored into your GPA (see AMCAS link).

Non-degree status is fine. If you don't want to follow AMCAS' advice about retakes in the link, I'd suggest retaking one class per summer session. Your GPA would then fit in the DO range for sure, plus some MD schools. If you then want to boost your GPA further, an SMP is the definite way to go. Plenty of programs are still accepting applications, although many require an MCAT score.

Do you want to go to a DO school or MD? If DO, grade replacement of classes you did badly in would make your GPA shoot up faster if you were to do well in them. If you want to go to MD schools, you should show them that you can handle upper division sciences and rock the MCAT (which will show you understand the lower division stuff).

Retaking the C+ in General Chem I and a C in Biochem would help show that you can handle the course work - if you think you can get an A. It won't have the GPA boast, but it helps paint the picture of "I screwed up the first time around, and now I've sorted it out and its As".

It might be advisable to take a few other courses to help move the GPA upwards - a whole semester/year of undergrad-post bac work at 3.7-4.0 might move you into a competitive range. If not, it definitely sets you up for a top SMP, and then in great standing to apply after that.

A word of warning - if you repeat the C+ in General Chem I and a C in Biochem, and get anything less than an A-... then you are proving you really aren't ready for med/dent school. the worst thing that could happen would be another C, or even an B-/B, as it would seal your deal. So, you HAVE to get an A/A-
