I indirectly understand from FA that Inner, middle, external ear embryological origin are endoderm (1st pouch), ectoderm (because cartilage part of branchial arch originates from neural crests), and ectoderm (1st cleft). Is my understanding correct or I miss anything?

The way I think of it is this: the inner and outer ear are ectoderm, and the middle ear is mesoderm. The exceptions: the spiral and vestibular ganglia receive contributions from neural crest cells (in addition to surface ectoderm), pharyngotympanic tube is endoderm, and the tympanic membrane is endo, meso, and ectoderm derives.

I remember reading from Kaplan , embryological derivatives table , that the external ear and inner ear are ectodermal derivatives , and the Middle ear along with the Eustachian tube are endodermal origin

is Kaplan wrong then ?

This was a firecracker question I had and the above is consistent with what they said (external/inner = ectoderm, middle = endoderm). I hate embryo, so I didn't take the time to look over it again aside from reading the flagged topic, but when I saw the Firecracker explanation it seemed consistent with what I remembered from Anatomy/Embryo.

My recollection as well

After wasting too much time looking into this, I learned that the middle ear contains a membranous covering of endoderm origin, the incus, malleus, and part of the stapes are neural crest, and the last part of the stapes and the two muscles are of mesoderm origin. 😳
