If you misspelled a course name or gave a course name that is slightly different from the transcript does it cause major problems during the AMCAS verification process?

I mean instead of "Fundamentals of Biochemistry" which is how it was on the transcript, I said "Biochemistry"

so instead of people thinking you took "intro to biochem" you wanted people to think you took just "biochem"

jeeze, i thought gunners were bad, this just takes the cake. because of this "innocent" mistake, youll now have your app returned in a few weeks only to have to have it re-certified and resent, and having to be verified all over again. 👎

Um. I hope that was sarcastic.

OP, the AMCAS verifiers will make the necessary changes. No recertification is necessary. If you agree with their changes, it's a done deal. If not, you have to submit an academic change request.

Everybody in my class called it Biochemistry. It was like that on the syllabus too but after submitting my application i realized my mistake (after cross checking with transcript)

I realized 2 months after my primary was verified that I had an entire semester of courses in the wrong year... so it appeared like I basically did nothing my junior year, and had 30 cr hours in one semester sophomore year. The AMCAS verifier apparently never bothered to look at dates?

I also had loads of little things mis-titled (like your mistake) and mis-spelled. I don't think it matters all that much unless it's a "big mistake" or there's some intentional deception. There's far too many applications for anybody to care.

Pretty much. I was once told by a wise SDNer that if your app is otherwise so perfect that this tiny error caused you to be rejected, you're very lucky (or unlucky).

Keep that in mind during the next several months to keep the neuroses at bay.

I just realized I misspelled the name of a drug I was working with in one of my research descriptions. I feel like an idiot. 🙁

thats fine. they wont change it, last year i named my classes whatever they didnt make a change. they did, however, add an AP course that didn't get credits (it said AP Chem: 4.0 credits and then AP Chem: -4.0 (for taking gen chem on my transcript). Working 9 to 5s suck man, can you imagine sitting in a room just verifying transcripts for a day and trying to feed yourself and maybe a family off it?

unless an adcom or interviewer worked with that drug, or you spelled aspirin as azzpunani, they will just skim over that too

It depends.

If you accidentally presented the course "Introduction to XY" as "Advanced XY" or "Graduate XY" you'd definitively be in trouble, and quite rightly so.

If it is "French History 1789-present" and you wrote "French History 1799-present" nobody will bother (though some might seriously wonder if you learned anything at all in that class).

🙂

Hint: Getting stuff right is important in medicine
-- I'd reject all applications that lack diligence. 1.0 mg or 1.0 g and your patient might be dead, even if you just forgot something minor like an "m". 😱 But then you're lucky, I'm not an admissions person. 😉

I'll keep your advice in the back of my head when I apply next year, thanks for the sage words.
