Ok...let's start with "don't laugh". I have heard that listing videogame playing can be an asset on MD applications. Let's assume for a minute that that's true.

I have tallied up my estimate of hours played, over 20 years (age 3-23).

For the age bracket of 3-10 yrs, I played about 12hrs/wk. 11-19 yrs, 25hrs/wk, and 19-23 yrs, about 6 hrs/wk. This totals to a ridiculous 16,016 hours of my time I could have spent curing AIDS, or the like.

My question is this...I am highly athletic and heavily involved in organized hockey and gymnastics, and have been in sports all my life. However, I have also been finding the time to play massive amounts of videogames as well. Since I have all my sports stuff documented in my application to the schools I'm applying for, is it ok for me to also put down my videogame playing? And who should I use as a verifier? My momma (lolz)?

For the record, I think videogames are tremendous learning tools. I have learned a ton from playing games, because I don't only play the shooters/GTA-type games. RPGs are my thang, hence the number of hours. I swear, it was super easy to visualize in ochem because of playing vids.

Just in case you are serious, no.

LizzyM, one of our frequent adcomm posters, has said that one should not list video game playing. I was a RPGer myself, so I share your grief.

It's such grief! 16 thousand hours...wow...but thanks Stratego!

Yeah that's a pretty impressive number. Not one the ad comms would care about, but geekily awesome nonetheless

There's a chance you might be really good at laproscopic procedures 😉

sadly, I think its a no. I did read an article a while back that stated that people who play video games are drastically better surgeons due to improved hand eye coordination. Kinda cool.

Yeah I read something similar! That's why I brought this up in the first place. Surgery is my interest. I have faith that Cloud, Squall, and Crono have got my back...

what if someone has won money and prizes playing in competitions?
