Hi, I am curious, does anyone know with definitive confidence whether or not med school admissions committees know which other schools students have been admitted to? In other words, say after last year's admission cycle, would school X know which other med schools John Applicant got into? Or are they not privy to this information?

Thanks. 🙂

I'm not sure if they have access of lists of student names, but I have heard that admissions people talk between schools. Therefore, if they know that someone applied to State U as well as their school, they might talk to the staff at State U to see if they're going to accept him/her. I think it depends on the people involved and how talkative they are.

they know for sure within that cycle, ie, last year. im not sure that it carries over to this cycle or not. call amcas or some schools and ask...they will be honest with you. good luck.

I have a feeling admissions offices can tell. I was waitlisted at USC and dropped my other acceptances in May and stuck with McGill. McGill, of course, is not on AMCAS. When USC called to accept me in July they said they were excited because they could see that I wasn't holding any acceptances on AMCAS and thought this would be great news for me. I then informed them that was because I had chosen a school not on AMCAS. So--I think to some extent they can tell, I'm just not sure if they can tell all the time or just after May or what.
