Straight out of high school I decided that pharmacy would be the career path I would go down. Midway through my second year (3rd Semester) a pre-existing injury re-surfaced causing me to have sit out of my upcoming Spring semester (because of surgery and PT). Fast forward 7 years, I am currently walking a career path (Asst. General Manager of a large resort) I never intended to make a life out of. The itch to become a pharmacist has never really gone away, and lately it's dormancy has evolved into full-blown realistic interest. That being said (the thought is that that elaborated back ground would help to answer the question I'm about to ask. ha.), I'm hopeful that someone might be able to provide me with their insight on how difficult the Pre-Pharmacy/PharmD curriculum is, i.e. class work?, course demand?, what strengths does one need to possess academically?, how much time is absorbed by the course work load?, etc. etc.? Sorry for being so long winded, but at 26, this would certainly be a big decision at this point in my life. Thanks in advance to anyone who responds. 🙂

Hello,
As to how hard the classes are, it is such an open question that nobody but you can really say. How hard the classes are really depends on the person. Some can breeze through particular classes while others struggle through them. Overall though, considering that many pre-pharm classes are upper division science classes, it can get tough. Strengths? Dedication and hard work. It sounds like you really do want to get into pharmacy, so there shouldn't be too much trouble there. 🙂 Along with the classes, have you started looking at volunteering in a pharmacy related setting?

are u just interested pharm or a health career in general.

One way to find out if you wanna do this is take a few classes that could cover prereqs for some other careers in ur mind. Shadow a pharmacist and see if its what u want.

on the other hand - it normal to get bored with what you are doing about ten years into the career. u have to ecide if you want to continue or not. My college friends and i all became aware that we were not happy with our current situation all about the same time - its like we do a 7-10 yr check on ourselves to see where we are. one of thse friends was a pharmacist who now thinks i am crazy that i would give up my career tohave what she no longer wants.

go take a couple of classes and see if you like the idea of school again. good luck
