hey all,
i'm from NY, and i came across and article recently about a podiatrist who lost 218 pounds!! Apparently, this was on the Today Show back in February, and I included a link to segment below if anyone's interested. I thought this was pretty neat, and to me, this doctor is an inspiration to lose weight. Plus, I think it's good PR for podiatry as a profession for someone to do something so great to better themselves.

I'm trying to guess which scenario is worse for your body:
a) being 213lbs over to heavy...
b) losing 213lbs of weight in only 13 months...

I'd place my bet on the slow steady tortoise vs the fast rabbit in this scenario...

sigh, i suppose you really did out smart me. How dare i commend this man on his high degree of self discipline to realize that being over weight was a problem and then taking an incredible proactive approach to lose it. I guess we're all not as baseline perfect as you, my friend.

It sounds almost unbelievable.....I am no R.D., but losing that much weight that quickly, isn't that unsafe?

NO its not healthy, not when you are THAT overweight. its a diminishing return. Its very easy to lose that much weight that quickly when you have THAT much extra weight. when you are only 10 pounds overweight, its hard to lose those 10 extra pounds because you dont have any to lose..but 200 extra

im pretty sure thats too much weight for the amount of time elapsed 😱

be as it may, the weight is off, did it all on his own, which i admire

If you want to post your opinion in a public forum you should be prepared to receive comments in support or comments in critique of your opinion. Further more to receive the slightest bit of non-praise and to be so reactive is completely ridiculous.

You are a pre-med/pod student right! So i assume you should have a rational brain . use wat you learnt in a place called "COLLEGE" okie! what does scenarios have to do with the above article. The guy has a doctorate degree and it would be naive to think he didnt think which your genius brain is thinking. aprreciate the news! dont give desicions unless you are a person who posses knowledge in that specific field.

thanks, cool vkb 🙂

cool_vkb,
In response to your, "don't give desicions unless you are a person who posses knowledge in that specific field" comment:
My posting stated MY opinion, "I'd place my bet..." . I disagree with your statement that only experts can make decisions and feel I have more then enough knowledge to state that losing that much weight can be unhealthy.
Despite your 1,138 posts and your claimed status as a podiatry student you need to display some sort of grammatical control of the English language to gain any sort of high ground in a forum... Your rate of spelling errors makes me question your 'real' education level. I will give you the benefit of the doubt and assume English is not your first language.
I applaud "Howard the Podiatrist" for his dramatic weight loss and still advocate that for the average person it is dangerous to lose that much weight. There is a movement around the country to lose weight through surgery or via pills and it can be dangerous and actually cause more harm then good. I appreciate Apple1012's posting but regardless of Howard being a DPM will voice my opinion as I'm an advocate of free speech and am well within my boundary to give my opinion - Thank you for your comments.

I totally respect and appreciate your opinion, afterall, that's what a forum is for. Just for the record though, the segment showed that it was not done through pills nor surgery, it was just a very strict diet, just thought that was kinda neat.
take care 🙂

Apple, no worries my initial post was more of comment not to make his accomplishment seem trivial. Perhaps it was a 'short' comment and karma has come around....as my dog just upchucked a nasty surprise on the carpet...
-cheers

Wat r u? TOEFL teacher for newly arrived ESL students? Just read the post and try to make sense out of it. if you cant then ignore it. Its that SIMPLE! Dont go ooh lala abt grammar and all stuff. and this is just a forum. i dont care what someone thinks abt my educational level or if iam reaching high ground or low ground.

I have been extremely hesitant in replying to your insane remarks about everyone in this whole forum (….and not this thread only). I thought that by posting 1100+ posts on this forum and by being a podiatry student you would have some level of credibility.

You criticize others for being a “pre-med/pod student”. I guess you’re a great role-model to future podiatrists. It’s so pathetic that you discuss rationality in which you have no rationality. On top of that I really don’t think you “learnt [anything] in a place called COLLEGE”. 4thelonghaul posted his scenarios as a form of a different perspective of the original post. I don’t think it takes a “doctorate degree” to understand that? Keep in mind that 4thelonghaul did not “give decisions” but gave a mere perspective on this topic. It’s too bad you were too “naïve” and “possess [no] knowledge in that specific field” for you to disapprove.

You seem to consistently misread and misinterpret everyone’s postings except yours. It is difficult enough for everyone else to decipher your postings. I am aware that English is not your first language. And that’s all good. But that doesn’t mean that you have no logic or intellect, right? Criticism is a national language and I hope you were able to take a little bit of your own medicine. I hope that you don’t intend on criticizing your patients for having clean feet. Criticism is only beneficial when it is constructive. I hope that one day you can be at least a “cool” role model to future podiatrists.

Yet again you are still not “cool”. Maybe you should start to “ignore” the posts; “its that SIMPLE”. I know you are attending podiatry school and all. But it is not your language skills that should be questioned but your intelligence? Quite honestly, I hate telling you the inconvenient truth. Man……just chill out, tell your opinions, and stop looking stupid by criticizing others. I am pretty sure you’re going to want to make some sort of rebuttal after this. And it’s “cool” but I only have time to reply back by next week because I will be on vacation. However, I hope that your next posting will be not as negative as you have been.

WTF does number of posts have to do with credibility and high ground and crap😕. You people take these forums way too seriously. I'am not here to get credibility or stuff. This is looking more like those chat forums where one guy is supposed to be the leader, other is the assistant and crap based upon seniority and stuff. This is a public forum, you voice your opinion and i voice my opinion. Stop seeking credibility and other stuff!

That is a tremendous accomplishment. The true test for him now is to keep it off and continue a healthy lifestyle. Good post. 🙂

As for the rest of this thread...I mean, really? 😳

You can read my previous posts again and as you will see, credibility was not the real issue. Anyways, your reply to my posting was rather funny and by no means, insightful.

You responded to 4thelonghaul in a very condescending fashion. And therefore, I felt obligated to respond by criticizing your remarks. However, I do intend on being mature enough to get back on topic here. Let’s talk about the podiatrist who lost all the weight and stop all of this nonsense by criticizing other people’s “opinions”. Anyways, have a great day/night.
