Hi everyone,

I am basically a lurker on this forum, but I am interested in your opinions about the Interdisciplinary Studies Major offered at my state school. I know that choice of major is not particularly important to professional schools. Yet, I still wonder if these schools which might consider History or Literature interesting and diverse would see a self-designed program such as Interdisciplinary Studies random and unfocused.

Basically, the program consists of choosing two areas of concentration and a minor. In my case, I would be doing physical sciences, modern languages and letters (English), and an Art Minor (I started off college as an Art major). The academic freedom of this program appeals to me.

So if any of you pursued a self-designed major such as this, or if any of you just have any opinions, I would really appreciate your input. Not only am I interested in whether you think professional schools would frown upon this, but I am also interested in your personal feelings about these types of programs. Do you think it is better to be highly specialized or broadly educated?

Thanks

your gpa (aka a number)>>>>>>>>>>>>>>the name of your major.

it is better to err into an undergrad school and major that will lead to a higher gpa.

In this case, it doesn't really matter. I have a 3.8 science and a 3.8 overall GPA and over 130 hours of credit (I earned 75ish while in highschool). My non-science GPA is very padded by all of these credits, and I am not considering doing a hard science/math major.
