I would like to have your opinion on good reading material.

My friend mentioned "The Economist". I have "Scientific American".

Any other suggestions that would help me on interviews or the MCAT verbal?

Um. I'd say get in the habit of reading the news and reading things you enjoy personally. Just like the MCAT verbal and interviews, people don't necessarily study for them. So just make sure you're not reading Dr. Seuss level stuff and you should be good. I can't stand publications like the Economist, etc. Most of the time it's just a snoozer and I don't learn that much.

Foreign affairs and the opinions section of Yahoo news...

NY Times.

If you can read non-English languages, read foreign newspapers (I prefer the liberal "El Pais" of Spain).

Scientific American is pretty good. If you're interested in a particular area of research/academia, hone in on it with a suitable research journal.

For Interviews, A Call To Action by Hank McKinnell

For fun, read The Kiterunner by Khaled Hosseini

On Call by Dr. Transue gave some good insights into residency which I found enlightening/encouraging.

But if you really want good reading material, you should read the comments on YouTube videos. Therein you will find wisdom ne'er before dreamt of.

read, "Complications: A surgeon's notes on an imperfect science" by atul gawande,

EXCELLENT writer and surgeon he also has a newer book out called "Better", i haven't read that one so i can't give my opinion on that, but Complications is a deff must read.
