Which is why it's ludicrous to not do anesthesia because of "the CRNA threat." Midlevels are a part of the medical landscape now, and it's not going to change: EM, FM, peds, IM. GS was probably one of the more resistant fields but obviously even they're not immune. The (lack of) growth of medical school and residency slots just didn't keep up with a growing/aging population more obsessed with health care.
