Interesting how dentists are listed under "mid-level providers". But then oral surgeons are listed under physicians. Neither are correct.

Oral surgeons ARE physicians. Well, most of them. Since they have MD's. Since they have to pass USMLE. Since they complete one year of general surgery internship.

Oral surgeons are even allowed to do plastic surgery fellowship (along with otolaryngologists and general surgeons).

Tell us more. I bet toofache32 is especially interested in hearing more about what oral surgeons can do. 😉
 
Actually only 40% of the training programs even offer the medical degree, and there are even fewer MDs in the specialty nationally because so many currently practicing oral surgeons were trained before MD programs were out there.

I guess I was referring to the basic requirement of the specialty, which is to be a dentist. The MD is optional and peripheral to the training.
