Hi, my interfolio account is about to expire. I'm wondering: is there any need for me to extend my account? If I don't extend it, does that basically mean that my 5 LORs are lost forever?

If I don't get accepted this year, then of course I know there is a need to extend my account for next year's cycle.

But if I do get accepted, will I need it in med school again?

Thank you

Most scholarships and research stuff in medical school ask for an academic med school prof and someone else who knows what you've been doing since medical school. You will likely never use your college letters again. It would be like using your HS letters of rec during college.

The one exception would be if you plan on doing a 2nd degree in the middle of med school. A friend of mine is in his 2nd year and just applied for the MD/MBA program - they wanted employer recommendations and he went back to his employers from before medical school. However, even then he asked for NEW LORs so they could be geared more toward business school.

I wouldn't bother, but thats just me.

Oh, thank you very much. I apologize for the redundant post. Indeed, before posting I spent quite some time searching the forum archives, but I guess I need to sharpen my search skills!

From the FAQ on the Interfolio website:

Will I lose my documents if my account becomes inactivated or I close it?
Rest assured that closing your account will not mean that your documents are lost. When an account is closed, we move the files to offline storage, where we maintain them for a minimum of five years. If you decide at any point during that five year period that you wished to reactivate your file, simply call us at 877.77.FOLIO or email us at [email protected] to reinstate your account.

If you would like to receive hard copies of the documents in your account, set up a delivery and provide your address infomation as the recipient. You will need to do this prior to closing your account. Standard mailing fees would apply.

Please note that we are not able to send you your confidential letters of recommendation.
