is interfolio worth the $48? it seems to have features like quality checks (i.e. letterhead, signature, etc) and the ability to get everything together early that seem nice.

Yes, absolutely. I had to apply twice and it really really nice to be able to re-use my letters without bugging my professors again. Additionally, it was nice to store them before I needed it (i.e. I had a fall semester professor write me a letter that he turned in over winter break for me to use the following June).

love to hear something is actually worth the price for once. thanks everyone!

Worth it. I was able to collect all my letters like 6 months before the application even opened, which took a lot of stress off my plate. It also flagged a bunch for not using official letterheads, and it allows you to distribute letters to specific schools and not to others which is nice.

Absolutely worth it! Best ~$50 dollars I spent over my application cycle.

Absolutely was worth for me. I’m a non traditional student and I piece meal collected my LORs from different semesters and ECs. It also saved me the headache of having to give recommenders the submission links for different application services.

Yes - one of my best letter of rec writers passed away prior to the start of the cycle from COVID. I was still able to use his letter because it had been uploaded on Interfolio. RIP

What’s the difference between the paid and the free version? It seems like the free version can do most of the stuff, no?

When you applied the second time, did you have to ask the professors to update the date or anything like that? Or is it just good to go?

I'm planning on collecting some letters a year before I apply, so I was wondering if that's fine

IIRC, you can store letters without paying but if you want to send them out to schools/AMCAS you'll have to pay a fee. Also, remember to turn off automatic renewal unless you feel like getting hit by a surprise $48 charge! (From personal experience..)

Ah got it. Meaning you can use it for free until it’s application time.
