So I'm starting pharmacy school in the fall but starting my internship this summer. Before, my husband and I were both molecular biology grad students that received a stipend. We filled out the FAFSA with that info, and got a decent amount of loans, with the award given on the idea that I'm married with a husband that's not a student. He just graduated and will be starting a post-doc soon. Post-docs don't make a lot, but with his salary, my intern pay, and financial aid, I thought we'd be okay.

However, I just looked at the financial aid thing, and it says you need to let them know about any stipends, other loans, etc. that you receive. Does the pharmacy intern pay apply for this? I would think not, as it's income, and this year's income would just affect next year's loans. But I'm new to this whole financial aid thing and just wanted to make sure.

Let me know if you can. Thanks in advance!

An excellent question... for your financial aid office 😉 Your logic is sound - but only they can give you a no kidding definitive answer.

Yeah, I kind of figured. They just have this habit of sending these e-mails over the weekend, and I figured while I wait for them to be OPEN I'd post to see if anyone knew on SDN.

Answering my own question... but just in case anyone was wondering.

So I contacted my financial aid office. They do go off of last year's income to determine your award. However, if your current income is a lot different from last year's, then you should let them know. I guess this is really the case if it goes up dramatically (i.e. if your spouse gets an amazing job), because then you may be forced to re-pay the loan early.

I'm just a student myself, so don't take my word for this completely (and it may vary depending on the school or state). I'm just posting this in case you are a bit of a worrywart like me and you are worrying about this stuff over the weekend when you can't talk to anyone in financial aid! And, as well, it may be prudent to contact them if your household income goes up dramatically from one year to the next.
