Question time:

Is it frowned upon for someone to do a transitional year or a year of IM then apply for a FP residency? For example, if an individual had a fiancee in a grad program and she was set to graduate a year later than the MD applicant.

I'd really like to hear from someone who's done this or something similar.

I think an FP program would welcome the experience.

They may ask why you want to change? What do you see different in FP that has motivated the desire to change?

But overall, I think that they would not frown on it.
You would end up doing 1st year again, but hey you would be very comfortable treating patients in the IM rotations.

Also, FP is not highly competitite at this time.
