"internal bleeding" anyone????

hey guys,

i'm flying out for an interview tomorrow, and I'd like to get myself a nice book to read on the plane....I saw in CNN.com an article about a book called "Internal Bleeding" by Dr. Robert Wachter, a doctor at UCSF.

Has anyone heard about or read this book, and if so, do you recommend it??? Thx yo

unfortunately, i have not read that book. but if you are interested, you can try "complications" by atul gawande, who is a surgical resident at brigham and womens. the book looks at medicine at a different angle - a more candid one. atul gawande explores the patient care through his surgical training. it's pretty intriguing. i highly recommend this book.

I recommend that book too. It's pretty good and offers a lot of insight into medical practices.

I've read that too, and I definitely recommend it also.

I agree. I read right before my first interview. It actually gave me a way to think about some major healthcare issues just in time. It actually prevented my first interview from being a disaster.

You should all consider checking out "When the Air Hits The Brain" by Dr. Frank Vertosick Jr. It a very candid account of the frenetic and psychopath world of brain surgery from a residents perspective!! It is humbling!!!

I saw the CNN interview of the author of Internal Bleeding, and I'm planning to read the book. It looks really interesting. Complications is also a fantastic book.

That has made me think of a great idea. Maybe if I eventually get into Medical school and then go on to a decent residency then I would think about writing a book. But I have no clue on what to write it about yet. Maybe in the future I can find something interesting.

I'm sure all of us will see enough interesting stuff in our medical training to write a book about. Or you could be like Dr. Sanjay Gupta on CNN - he's the medical correspondent and gets to travel everywhere and report all the health/medical stories.

white coat is awesome!! when I read it, I felt like I was apart of the class at harvard!! It's written by Ellen Roth, and it's about her experience as a med student and resident.
