International Post Bac Programs?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
US med schools generally require you to complete prereqs at a US school. Getting foreign transcripts evaluated & accepted for med school admissions is expensive, slow and error-prone.

Also, the concept of changing careers into medicine is considerably more prevalent in the US. As is the concept of student debt.

That said, if you want to spend some time overseas, studying or not, I think that's a great idea. Not an optimal path to med school, but a very good use of time.

Best of luck to you.

Very, very true. It seems like everywhere else you're tracked into arts or sciences by the time they hit puberty. US docs make fantastic authors, but my fiancé swears their UK counterparts rely on ghostwriters because they're usually tracked into sciences by the time they're 13-14, after they've finished the GCSEs.

Actually, that probably explains it. You're not trying to get people caught up on four or five college classes; you need to catch them up on high-school level sciences and maths PLUS all of the necessary college classes.

Sorry for not thinking my question through. 🙁

Agreed. Yet paradoxically, this is the part I may be able to cut down on if I can find an EU program. (Well, after the wedding, at any rate.) Other developed nations seem to have a much healthier approach to medical school funding.

Uh-oh. That's really what I needed to know.

Thanks -- I appreciate it!
