So I recently found out I've been accepted to pharmacy school. I'm currently finishing a PhD program and should be done in June. I'm planning to look for a pharmacy internship over the summer, and I was wondering if you all had any advice.

For one thing, I'm not sure exactly what to look for. I'm entering pharmacy in part to have more contact with people and less contact with plates of cells. I currently am a pharmacy assistant volunteer in an outpatient pharmacy at a hospital.

Any advice in general would be appreciated!

You might not be able to become a pharmacy intern yet depending on your state. Some don't classify you as an intern until you actually start classes or even after you complete one year. Some do let you become an intern earlier though. You can find out either from your state board of pharmacy or from your college. If you can't be an intern right away, I suggest telling the pharmacies you are accepted to pharmacy school as they will be more likely to hire you.

See if they have any openings at the pharmacy you volunteer at since you have some contacts there. Otherwise start calling around to pharmacies.

So I did already check, and I can do an internship starting this summer. It won't count towards my state-mandated hours, but I need to find some sort of job, and if I can be in a pharmacy, that'd be even better.

One caveat to staying where I'm at now is apparently they require really long hours of their interns. That may not be too big of a problem, but I'd like a decent amount of time to study when I'm in school.

I guess more of what I'm wondering is where people are interning and what they think of it. How are internships in community pharmacies? How are they in hospital pharmacies?
