Hi,

I'm new to this forum, and it looks really helpful so far. I was hoping that some of you could help me out as I'm quite new to this and am lost.

I've been looking around for Summer Internship opportunities that are available to Pre-Dental Undergraduate students. I'm a Freshman attending Boston University right now, and I would really like to practice in the dental field some day. But, right now, I'm simply looking for some sort of internship/research position for the summer (Paid or Unpaid, I have no preference, I really would like some hands on experience).

I've completed the following courses: 2 semesters of Intro Chem, 1 Semester of Spanish, 1 Semester of Intro Biology (AP Credit), 1 Semester of Intro Statistics (AP Credit), 1 Calculus 1 (AP Credit), 1 Calculus 2. I'm Currently enrolled in the following courses: 1 2nd Semester Intro Biology, 1 Semester Intro Physics, 1 Semester of Spanish, and 1 Semester of Intro Psychology.

I'm hoping that someone can point me in the direction of some sort of summer internship in/around Massachusetts. Again, I don't mind whether or not it's a paid position, I just want some hands on experience. It would be a great help!

Thanks in advance

If you're down for research, try contacting some of the research people at BU's dental school to see if they will take on a volunteer. Harvard is a good place to ask too (duh), but you may have a better chance with BU since you are already affiliated with them. Most researchers have some type of web site with a description of their research or you could pubmed them. You have some prereq's out of the way, so they'll like that you kind of know what's going on in a lab. You may start out with doing dishes, but you can move up and actually do procedures if you keep interested. Being involved in their lab, you should be able to ask questions about the dental school itself and meeting random dental students. Any experience is good experience as long as you are willing to ask questions!

If you're looking for shadowing, that's another can of worms. Contact local dental societies and see if there is a bank of people willing to let you shadow. Dentists in these societies generally are looking to forward the profession and are accepting of the idea of shadowing.

If you're a minority, look into the SMDEP program... don't know much about it, but def google it.

There are a ton more things you can do, but hopefully that will get you started. Good luck!!
