Internship sites that have very few applications per year?

New here, but I'm applying for internships this cycle. I've already got a few interviews! But there's this one site I'm still on the fence about applying for (due date is December 1). It's a forensic hospital that ideally has everything I'm looking for in terms of training, but I noticed they only receive between 10-15 applications per year for the last several years. I considered the fact that the site joined APPIC in 2019, but one of my cohort members told me that the lack of applications is a huge red flag. What are your thoughts on this?

This depends on a number of factors, geography and training options being major ones. Low applicants in NYC is a red flag. Low applicants in rural West Virginia less so. However, applying never hurts. You don't have to rank them if you are unsure after an interview.

I remember having the same thoughts as you years ago. I applied to a bunch. Ended up getting interviews and matching at one of the so called top tier ones. Didn’t get one interview at the ones that no one applied to. Always thought it was weird.

Haha, same. Except I don't think it's weird - it shows that fit is the most important.

Happened to me as well. It was my 'safety" application to a somewhat rural place not that far from my program. Ironically, everyone in my grad school class was denied an interview that year.

Likewise, I had a program that I picked that was not all that highly regarded for neuro, that was only a mildly good fit, that I picked because it was back closer to family, and it was one of the few that I didn't get an interview offer.
