Hi!

I was just wondering that why some schools have Internship, Clerkship, or Rotation in their Pharm.D curriculum (PY-4)? Is all that same? And some schools required about 1200-1600 hours of work in PY-4 do you get paid for working during your PY-4(1200-1600 hours)?

I am a Pharmacy Technician and Pre-Pharmacy student right now. So, when I get accepted for Pharm.D program is it good to obtain Intern Licence and work as Pharmacy Intern after the PY-1 or be countinued as a Pharmacy Technician?

Thanx!

It's all the same thing. Externship, clerkship, rotations. You don't get paid. It's part of the pharmD curriculum.

You automatically get your internship license during your first year. Interns get paid at a higher rate than techs, at least here in Florida. You also have more responsibility. I can take doctor calls, access the C-II cabinet, counsel patients, etc.

I have a classmate who took a pay cut and lost all her senority by becoming an intern. Her company didn't give her a choice, though. She is the only person I've heard of taking a pay cut, though. You should be able to ask places what their interns are paid, or ask other interns in the area what they are making so that you can decide if switching soon is a good idea.

You will be able to do more as an intern and therefore learn more. Different states allow interns to accumulate hours at different points in their schooling. I'd go for the liscence as soon as you can accumulate hours.

I've got a bad feeling that I'm going to take a pay cut, but I have no choice. I can't keep the tech job in Colorado and go to school in Arizona 🙁

My question is actually for my wife. She is a new P1 student at Creighton (Web-based) program. They told her she has to complete around 1500 hours of internship prior to her P4 year. I think she is mistaken an am assuming that the 1500 hours referred to is actually the P4 year. Can someone please clarify this for us. Thanks
