I got a rejection letter today from Minnesota encouraging me to reapply next year. It's probably a filler, but that was the nicest thing I've heard from an adcom so far hahaha.

I know this is a silly question, but should I read into it at all?
It will be my third cycle this year, and I really don't wanna end up going to eastern europe to study dentistry.....

did they at least give you suggestions that help you improve your application for next year?

cause its EXTREMELY silly and IMO unprofessional to reject someone, THEN tell them to reapply again to the SAME program that just rejected them without giving them any advice on how to improve their current application.... see what I mean?

true, agree with dentalworks,
unless they dont want you to get down on yourself and its just their way of nicely rejecting someone. Or they want your application money again .........uh
also what IMO mean? i see that around here all the time im sdn lingo dyslexic

i wouldn't read into it, however, UM is a Canadian friendly school, so if you re-apply, i think you should reapply to them. I am a re-applicant, this time they invited me for interview 😀. Be aware of their tuition rate though, it's not cheap!

Thank you guys, I really appreciate your inputs.
dentalworks:
You have a good point there.
Yes, they did tell me to improve my application on areas they didn't specify, so I had a feeling it wasn't a "personalized" rejection letter. But, I had a glimmer of hope that maybe they took note of my post bac and MSc and took pity on me haha
Maybe I'll give them a call and find out exactly how I can improve my chanes.

yangwang, I hope you get in! GL
thanks for the info and headsup by the way.

I heard Eastern Europe Degrees=Not equal to the U.S.? Don't you need 2 extra years training?

I'm sure you'll get in somewhere, its not the end of the cycle yet!

I think ppl who have eastern european degrees, and want to come practice here in the states, dont they have to do a PASS program at an american dental school as well? Like another 3 years of dent school in the states? both of the dentists ive interned for went to dental school in europe then did the pass program at upenn in order to practice here. I dunno maybe this isnt always the case.
Hopefully youll get in soon (by soon i mean this cycle at another school or next cycle when u reapply)

Thanks for your words of encouragement!

Yes, so the program I was interested in is 5 years and 2 years on top of that if you want to practice in the states. For this reason, I convinced myself to do a post bac + MSc in lieu of this alternate route, but it looks like I am back to ground zero once again except the applicant pool now grew even more competitive.

Anyways, if I decide to go to europe, I may never come back and face possible disownment by from my parents

Yea, it's also competitive to get into the foreign dentist training program. So I am only considering it as my last resort, although their tuition fee is only 10k/year and the living cost in poland would be a lot cheaper than here.

Thanks, GL to you too!

Definitely call or email them to ask what you can do to improve your application and tell them to be brutally honest. The best thing you an do from this situation is learn from it and come back kickin ass!

Jindobre! I was just back in Poland for winter break for relatives. It was a nice snowfall this year around compared to last year. Love Poland, I'm sure you'll enjoy it if you decide to attend there. I was also thinking about attending school in Poland, but that was also my last choice due to the complications with transferring to the U.S. Anyways, I'm still hoping that you get that U.S. Dschool!

I got a rejection letter today too, encouraging me to reapply early next cycle!
