I have worked as a medical interpreter in German for two years in hospital ER . Does it count as a clinical experience ?? I think yes 😳 but I don't think it seem a strong clinical experience like working as a CNA or EMT .. What do you guys think 😛
Thx 🙂
Also it was an wonderful experience 🙂

Sure, it's clinical. The idea of "clinical" isn't doing medical procedures and stuff... it's more about just being in a hospital environment and interacting with patients. And even better if you enjoyed your experience... as you'll have more to talk about if it comes up in the interview. 🙂

I wish I could have had the opportunity to do this for French-speaking patients. Sounds like you really enjoyed this experience, fantastic!

I was a volunteer Spanish medical interpreter at my local hospital for 2 years. I am also going to count it as patient contact. Like others have said it doesn't have to be actual procedures to be counted as clinical work. What matters is exposure to patients and the patient care setting and it being meaningful to you.

If you don't use it, you lose it!

I'm sad to say that my French sucks now, too. Zut! I'm hoping to get Rosetta Stone or something similar for French (because I want to relearn and go back to France soon) and Spanish (because I am Hispanic and never learned 🙁). Plus I live in Florida. Both would be useful for life in the community as well as patient interaction, but obviously Spanish much much much more so than French.

Sorry double post

Do you not remember ANY of your French? If you remember at least how to read/pronounce it you could always get back into it just reading stuff from the Internet with a dictionary handy.
I took a Spanish medical terminology class in my undergrad and it was very useful. Maybe you could find something like that to help you at least learn some medically relevant terminology for Hispanic patients.

Yes it is and it's the kind of direct patient contact experience we like!!!

I haven't forgotten everything, and I do read Le Monde every now and then. I just can't speak French at will anymore. I used to be very proficient and was even complimented by people in France, which means a lot to me because Americans tend to be ignorant when it comes to visiting foreign countries and speaking a different language.

If I get into Nova I will definitely take the Medical Spanish course.

Me too! NeuroLAX where'd you learn your French? Southern France for 2 years for myself. And I also plan to take the Medical Spanish class if I go to Nova.

Middle and High school for 6 years. I could probably still speak pretty well had I taken the French sequence in college... but I decided to test out of it. It took me two attempts, too! I was one or two questions short of passing on the first try. That should have been a sign 😀

I feel rotten about losing my French and even more so that I don't speak Spanish despite being Hispanic.
