Now that I'm a third year and starting to look at freida, I'm not sure how exactly I should be interpreting my chances at various programs. If for example the average usmle score of current residents is somewhere in the 225-240 range, and there is consistently 1 or 2 DO's in each class (something like 15-25% DO's), should I assume that I'd need to have a 230+ or even 240+ to be considered a solid candidate for the program? Also, are programs like these considered "DO friendly"?

I'd say 15-25% is decent, although for that low %, I'd guess the upper end of the range, but who really knows and a lot of people say it's not accurate for whatever reason. From what I've seen, seems to be on the money, although a lot of programs don't even provide info.

The only useful part of Freida is the %DO category. If there were never any DOs there, don't get your hopes up.

As far as boards, obviously as high of a score as possible and taking both Steps is a no brainer. The minimum Step cutoff is completely useless afaik. Like Hopkins gas lists it as 200 but no one there has anything near that. The average range is also pretty tough to gauge but if you fall within it, I think you're good to go.

At least 7-8% DOs and USMLE Steps within 4-5 pts of current residents range

Those two are probably the most useful infos.

Its not accurate cause its self reported. Whatever the program secretary is told to put in, thats what goes in. But its better than nothing, I certainly use it to see if a program has DO's. But they screw that up as well. They will sometimes say all MD, but then have an comlex average or vice versa. At the end of the day you often end up looking up individual places and trying to read resident profiles.

I think it is much easier to look at your schools match list from last year, and see who matched into what residency's that you desire. Thats probably the best way.
