For programs with with one interview date, any ideas about when usually they send offers on an average? I heard that bigger programs tend to decide pretty fast but not sure if that’s true!

That sucks especially if you are have an interview coming up in a program you really like and before that you get an offer from a program with an early interview date!!

The unfairness continues!!!

Yup. It’s unfair. Welcome to the IC application process. I got my offer (which, mind you, I’m quite happy about) about two weeks before another program I really liked gave me another offer.

The timeline for decision making is also highly variable. One program (which I didn’t like) gave me an offer the next day which I politely declined. Another program took nearly a month after its interview day to decide. Some had interview dates into late Feb/early March well after most others had already interviewed. A few programs never ever got back to me and made decisions without notifying the other applicants.

I think the ideal situation would be - all programs have to interview within a certain 3-4 month timeframe and then give offers to people within the same designated week. But that will never happen.
 
At least EP now is fair as it is going through ERAS and NRMP. 🙂

Can someone shed light on what are the total (per fellow) procedure, PCI, and STEMI numbers considered for a program to be "adequate", "above average", or "superior"?

Are there any websites or sources that has those numbers for each hospital?

Unable to compare, but have heard great things from multiple past IC fellows that have trained at Beaumont. Henry Ford has a strong name with their cardiogenic shock trials, Bill O'Neill and recent ties to Cindy Grines. Have not heard from them but wouldn't be surprised if at least one of their spots is being filled internally.

Bare minimum 250
Average 300- 400
High volume 500

Individual program websites sometimes have numbers. Otherwise have not heard of a site with a comprehensive list.

Yeah, usually you just talk to the IC fellows at each program and see what they say.

Out of curiosity, does anyone know the match rate for interventional cardiology?

It varies from year to year; I’m not sure stats actually exist as it’s such a fragmented system. Not every program participates in ERAS, some programs have their own apps, many fill internally etc

Still haven’t heard from several programs...
very quite here over the past 2 weeks. No more invites ?

Anyone have any idea about the NYP brooklyn methodist program? Seemed like a decent program in terms of procedural volume and experience.
Any ideas if they offered spots already? I believe last interview date was Feb 13th.

Quick feedback
Good news I got my spot last week
It was my third interview but the process was very painless. Got the offer same day. Happy with my choice. Expanding program, PD extremely nice and skilled in a nice city.
About the whole IC application process, if there’s one word to resume it. MESS!
To the point I started wondering about the integrity of the process and folks behind it.
It’s a weird game to be played. Very different than IM and fellowship.
Not sure if the match is the answer though
Apply broadly and vastly
Lots, but lots of programs without the decency to even send a mass email denying you for an interview
Calling programs it’s a hit or miss. There’s no good advice from me here. Yes I did call some but the one I got in was the one I didn’t call.
Interview day would recommend just to enjoy and relax. Questions gravitated more around your CV and previous experiences. Never leave the room without asking 1 or 2 smart questions... that says a lot about your interest
Asking your PD to email or call it might help or not. Truth is if you’re interviewing is bc they couldn’t accommodate you in your home program. It’s not like your IM PD calling a PD from a diff field.
So that can be a little weird for your PD to do unless you both have a strong reason, especially if the PD is an interventional cardiologist. Otw is a waste of time.
I’ve decided not to have anyone to call prior, only after invitation and interview itself but in my case wasn’t necessary
Get ready to accept an offer and how to react to it.
I know it’s a f* system and it’s ok to try a better fit for you with something already agreed upon but remember it’s a small field. Backing an offer down can be a big deal for some programs and that may come back to you eventually when applying for jobs or something else. Again, can’t give a better advice.
I would say just take it and move on. That’s what I did. Took it and withdrew from eras. And still got an interview offer after.

I agree with most of this - but:
It is awkward to turn down an offer somewhere after you’ve already accepted elsewhere but I don’t think that should blacklist you necessarily in looking for jobs - what other option do you have? You can’t accept every single place that calls you. I knew a couple powerhouse applicants who said no to 3-4 offers before accepting a spot

The process sucks but I’m not sure what the appropriate solution to change it if any is

Legal implications not at all as far as the letter of intent is your only concern. Even if you sign the contract I don’t think there will be a legal implication but I will be careful before signing it. Even though most of these contracts are the same across the GME programs I would make sure there’s not a punitive clause.
The process is flawed and that’s how it works.
PDs face the same issue every year and they know that.
So I don’t think you should worry if you have a better option, I would just notify the program you’re backing down an initial offer sooner than later
