I think it depends on where you want to practice, and what kind of job you are looking for (private/academic). if you want to do private, of course go to the higher volume clinical oriented programs.
Some of the programs with high volume other than the ones you mentioned, I heard the following Brown 400+, Mount Sinai 500+, William Beaumont 500+, UAMS 500+ and I am sure there are many others.
Right? I was excited to not have another match. This is much worse. This process sucks. Makes you appreciate the way the match works.
I got a message from MSSM for procedure log today. Did you guys print New Innovations log or got it signed from cath lab director? Some of the things are absurd, like CTO PCIs, STEMI PCIs. complications?I received a message from Mt. Sinai asking for procedure logs today. No interviews yet. Anyone else heard anything?
I found this absurd as well. Renal and cerebral as primary operator?! ASD/PFO closures?! Really anything as primary operator after 18 months of gen cards training seems like a stretch besides diagnostic R/LHC. I filled this out through my logged data and had our cath lab director sign it. I had around 250 LHC and like 40 RHC, we're a high volume center but I'm honestly not sure at all if that is a lot or a little ? I've only had 2 months of cath so far and our program does 4-6 depending on elective choices. We have interventional fellows so they are primary operator/fellow on IVUS, FFR, angiojet, any PCI etc at least for the first 6-8 months. I mean I snagged a balloon pump or two and put in so fem closure devices, but I cannot imagine this is weighed too heavily in selection criteria...any input at all would be appreciated.I got a message from MSSM for procedure log today. Is the number of procedures done a criteria of selection? I have done like 150 odd LHCs in 18 months of fellowship so far. are they too few? any words of wisdom will be appreciated.
i think it has more to do with malignancy of program. IC fellows are not treated nicely and fellows are made to feel worse than interns at times.. having said that it is one of the better programs out thereI wonder why interventional fellows at MSSM come from second/third tier programs (http://icahn.mssm.edu/education/res...list/msh-interventional-cardiology-fellowship). I assume that they sent invitations so late in the cycle that all the candidates from top tier hospitals are taken.

All the fellows from the website appear to have Indian origin name or from India. Either a lot of super qualified indians apply there or it is the preference of the program?
Got rejection from Mount Sinai today (MSSM)
Haven't heard anything from Mount Sinai. What's going on?
Im with you, haevnt heard anything from them after they asked for procedure logs. Buffalobils, did they ask you for procedure log or anything else?Haven't heard anything from Mount Sinai. What's going on?
Didnt hear you complain about all the jewish names!Probably you don't have an Indian-like last name,
Yes we can say same thing about majority general cards program as they do tend to discriminate IMGs as well.Interesting. It seems that the MSSM program is racially and ethically biased.
Is anybody getting any interviews?? or is it still early ??
I have 2 interviews and 1 rejection. Is anybody getting any interviews?? or is it still early ??
No wait. I have technically have 2 rejections since MSSM wouldn't accept my application.I have 2 interviews and 1 rejection.
Interview offer St. Vincent

Interview- methodist houston
2/6,2/9,2/10
Can anyone throw some light on programs in Houston? There seem to be quiet a few.
Thank you so much!!I interviewed at all of them for general fellowship - Don't remember a lot about Methodist's numbers. They are probably middle of the road. I liked the general fellowship though. I ranked them fairly high.
I know that UT Houston has really good volume. Probably the busiest in the Med Center. Really good TAVR experience. One of the guys there now has over 70 TAVRs, half as the primary operator. at the half way point has about 200PCIs and 41 peripherals. Get to see tandems - I know the IC fellow goes in for those sometimes. 2 call days a week and every 3rd weekend. for IC. Expect they will have 2 internal people and probably offer 1 outside spot.
Texas Heart has good numbers/training but I think they pretty much fill internally or from Baylor every year. There has been a lot of movement from practitioners after they were bought by CHI.
I believe Baylor filled internally as well.
