~~~Interview Advice and Discussion~~~
This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Has anyone been called for interviews yet? If so, when did you submit your AADSAS application.
Also, how do you think you would answer the following questions?
"Once you're a dentist, how would you handle the fact that most of your patients' problems will be because of them not following your advice of brushing and flossing?"
What attire is recommended?
this post will get busy in like 2 weeks when most of interview invites are made 😀
I think it goes without saying that men should be clean-shaven at interviews. But what do you think about facial hair styles if it is trimmed and well kept?
From what I was told, absolutely no facial hair. Don't understand why you can't go rockin' a handlebar but that is just the way it is.
My app hasn't even been mailed out yet, but I'm really worried about... clothes.
It's easy for men (suit), but what about women? How dressed up do we have to be? Do I have to go out and buy a pantsuit to wear once (maybe thrice) for an interview and never wear again? There are too many questions floating around in my head.
tooth - go for a nice, professional, gender appropriate suit. Once you're a dentist you'll need to have something to interview in/ go to professional events in. Think of it as an investment.
Though... womans weight do tend to yo-yo more than mens - I see where you're coming from :laugh:
awakening07,
The answer to that question is this: expect it. Doctors say a lot things to their patients and most do not follow directions. You cannot allow yourself to be affected emotionally by your patients lack of interest in their own oral hygiene. As I said, expect it from the majority of your patients. Calmly explain the risks and benefits and explain your diagnosis. Realize that the patients who refuse your expert advise will be coming you you more frequently and will require your skills.
Also......anyone who is wondering about attire for interviews.....dress sharp and make a good impression. You only get one to make.
