How did you prepare for ethical interview questions? Are there any websites where you can find out about issues in medicine and that sort of stuff? Thank you.

There is no wrong way to answer this question...

Well actually there is.

However, you MUST stick to what you originally said. I was asked the same ethical quesiton three times-reworded three different ways (after which I thought they hated my answer), but I stuck to my answer and for some reason I was accepted.

You hav eto be confident and follow your heart, and not what they "want" to hear, cuz my answer probably wasn't what the wanted to hear.

don't prepare. then you look like an idiot trying to recall facts you read or your prepared answer. just say what you believe in and why. there's no right answer. just defend your answer logically.

ECHO ECHO 🙄 😛

Take a moment to think about what yo are going to say. Don't start talking immediatly after you are asked the question.

Don't start changing your mind and taking the other side.

When I got done answering my question I asked the interviewer.... "Since I have no idea what the correct answer is and since I could run across this as a doctor, will your school teach me all that I need to know about ethical decisions such as the one you presented to me?"

I think interviewers want to see that you are able to evaulate ethical problems... the "answers" to such problems are clearly not written in stone, so I think they are looking for the thought process more than a "right" answer. When given an ethics question I like to go over some of the factors that I would consider to make my decision. This shows that I am covering all the bases and not just picking the solution that I like... it also gives me a little time to think out loud and clarify my thoughts before commiting to anything.

Here are the exact questions I was asked in all my interviews, and my responses. I was accepted everywhere I went.

Q: Where do you see yourself 10 years from now?

A: Doing some highly reimbursed procedure. Certainly not wasting my time interviewing medical school applicants, that's for sure. Is that your 94 Hyundai parked outside?

-------------

Q: What is your greatest strength?

A: The fact that I have no weaknesses.

-------------

Q: What is your biggest weakness?

A: Are you even listening to me?

-------------

Q: Where do you stand on abortion?

A: Good question... *COUGH* Excuse me... *COUGH* *FALL OVER, FAKE A STROKE, AND HOPE FOR A "PITY ACCEPTANCE"*

-------------

Q: What is your opinion of erectile dysfunction?

A: Sir, I'm against it.

-------------

Q: Two patients need a kidney, and your hospital only has one kidney to give. One patient is a 5 year old girl, and the other is a 28 year old porn-addicted drug dealer. Who gets the kidney?

A: I would go with the porn-addicted drug dealer.

Q: Why?

A: Why not? I deserve the kidney just as much as she does!

-------------

Q: Two trains leave Chicago, an hour apart traveling in different directions...

A: *INTERRUPT* Uhhh... Holistic. Yeah, Andrew Taylor Stewart... I mean, Still... Go manipulation! Woo hoo!

-------------

Q: Why do you want to be a DO?

A: Because I'm a believer in the chiropractic philosophy.

-------------

Q: Would you take the life of a patient that asked you to kill them?

A: Absolutely not! Oh wait... are they insured?

-------------

Q: The program director for the residency program you wish to attend asks you to do something unethical. What do you do?

A: Something unethical.

-------------

Q: Why didn't you bring me a donut this morning?

A: Because it looks like you've already eaten them all.

-------------

Q: Are you ever indecisive?

A: Sometimes I am, sometimes I am not.

-------------

Q: On your application you stated you were an "underrepresented minority." Which minority is this?

A: The minority of applicants willing to lie on their application in order to get an interview!
