Thomas Jefferson ? Philadelphia PA
1. Training: * * * : ED does not seem very large or busy. The patient acuity also seems less than optimal. ICU and Anesthesiology totations at Methodist Hospital. OB/GYN at Torresdale Hosp. Ophtho at Will's (big plus). Trauma at Cooper; Peds EM/PICU at DuPont; NICU at Lourdes, Tox at CHOP.
2. Didactics: * * : Not very impressed. Appeared to be lecture style. Not very interactive.
3. Research: * * * * : Vast opportunities for medicalresearch. Both basic science and clinical. Currently in collaborations with pharmaceutical phase III trials. Also NIH research money.
4. Curriculum: * * * * : Comprehensive. No floor months. 2 weeks of EKG reading in the heart station first year.
5. ED: * * * : Relatively clean and organized. Brochure says it is ultramodern. Not sure if I agree with this statement (especially in comparison to the unbelievable ED at Albert Einstein, philly). Observational area too. The physician space seems very cramped.
6. Hospital: * * * * : Great reputation. Otherwise very nice facilities.
7. Location: * * * * : Excellent area of Philadelphia.
8. Salary: 38,500 (PGY1)
9. Residents: * * * : Mostly friendly and fun. One or two unprofessional remarks.
10. Faculty: * * * * : All of the faculty seemed great. The residents had nothing negative to say about faculty. PD and Coordinator were very organized and friendly.
11. Interview Food: * * : Boxed lunches with stale bread.
12. Other Comments: Appears to be a lot of problems with getting films read. Not sure if ED has pacs system. Although a Level 1 trauma center, it does not appear too trauma busy. Also a regional spinal cord injury center.
Program Type: 1,2,3
Openings: 12
University Affiliation: Yes
Medical Student Interactions: Yes
Moonlighting: Yes
