Hello everyone,

I have an interview at Pacific on 2/3/06. I'm just curious if anyone can shed some light on the interview itself... open file, number of interviewers, type of questions, etc. Something like 15 other applicants will be interviewed on that day, with lots of other activities throughout the day, so that should be interesting! (Standing out in a group of 2-3 is easy... 15... not so much!) Also, how long do they take to get back to you? I'm not as nervous as I was for my ICO interview, but, I do want to be well prepared! Thanks in advance. p.greeneyes

They'll probably have you write a short impromtu essay, which isn't very hard. You'll likely be able to choose one of three topics. You will have your picture taken (so they can remember you). The actual interview isn't very stressful. There will probably be one faculty member/professor, one student. Or, two faculty/profs, and no student. Or all three. Have some questions ready for the people interviewing you, about the school...or what ever you're curious about. In my interview, I was asked to take a piece of paper from several other papers, which had a hypothetical situation... you're a doctor in a certain situation and you're asked what you would do. Sort of an ethical thing. They give you a minute or two to think of an answer. It is not difficult, so don't worry about it. Lastly, you'll get a tour of the optometry school, and Pacific's minute campus. You will have a good time! don't worry about anything!
Bring your umbrella.

Look at the interview feedback. I posted some stuff there. Hope it helps.

Thanks guys for posting the information. The interview feedback really helped! I had the interview today, and I think it went pretty well. The interview itself was incredibly laid back... I can't believe how much easier it was as compared to ICO. The campus was lovely, even though it was raining the whole day! I thought Forest Grove was nice, and it is good that you have the small town atmosphere with the convenience of the big city within a reasonable distance! I hear back on Thursday... so we'll see! One of the only things that I did not like was the clinic on campus. The guy giving the tour said that they do about 10 pairs of glasses a day in their dispensary... and I'm thinking to myself that in my office we do 10 pairs in three hours when we have two doctors seeing patients. They do have the clinics in Portland that offer a better patient base, but still nothing that compares to what I could see at SCO or ICO. Hmmm... decisions, decisions!

Hello all!!

I just had my interview at Pacific last Friday...and waiting for their decision this coming Thursday! I'm a little nervous...and very very anxious. I tripped over words...and I could feel myself shaking. But it seemed pretty laid back...most of the time they asked me about Hawaii (since I'm from there) and we just basically "talked stories."

"Prettygreeneyes":

I know that you got accepted already...but I just wanted some information from you...I also sent you message regarding it. 🙂 Sorry, I'm just a little worried because Pacific is the only school that I applied to. My OAT scores are average:

QR: 300
RC: 360
Bio: 380
Gen Chem: 320
O chem: 310
Physics: 340
TS: 340
AA: 340

My undergrad GPA was 3.45 for a BS Biology degree at UH Manoa.

I volunteered at many different practices for about a total of 200 hours or so. I am curently working at a private practice office...mainly just fixing, adjusting, dispensing glasses and filing many insurances. I also check the Rx of glasses and contact lenses prior dispensing and also do contact lens training for new contact lens wearers. 🙂

I loved Pacific and I also told them that I am interested in specializing in Pediatrics! I love kids!!!!! I worked with a lot of children for a special education program back in my hometown, Maui.

I just wanted to know if I have a "foot in the door." I'm very nervous while waiting for their decision! ahhhh! Please...any advice would be totally awesome!

I think it sounds like you are in really good shape...I got in with a 320 TS for the OAT and a 3.65 GPA in biochemistry. I did a little over the required observation hours, nothing compared to what you have. You shouldn't have any problems getting in...Good luck, and don't worry too much about it!
